On Memorial Day, WWII and My Father

Hi Everyone,

Today is Memorial Day … I woke up early today, thinking back about my Father, he is now long passed. He served aboard a destroyer escort in the South Pacific during WWII. He used to say if you wanted to understand what the war was like in the Pacific for him then watch the movies Mr. Roberts, the Cain Mutiny and in Harm’s Way, and that pretty much sums it up.

Every year, fewer and fewer veterans remain from WWII and with every generation fewer and fewer are left to remember them.

Well today, we have the day off to honor and remember those who fought. When we have our picnic and barbeque, I’ll quietly toast a beer to those you never met. So here’s to all my father’s friends who had survived that war but are now long passed away … Cheers!
