A Father’s Day Surprise

On such a beautiful sunny Father’s Day, my Daughter and Son-in-Law surprised us with a family outing to a Frederick Keys Game. They bought the Father’s Day Special for us with free hot dogs and soda, and we even got to throw a ball from the pitcher’s mound to home plate. They took our picture and posted it on the Frederick Keys facebook page along with the rest of the fathers and daughters.

It was a real action packed game with the Keys pulling ahead early on and carrying the lead throughout the game, beating the Pelicans 6 to 1. The Pelican tempers were running a bit hot this day.

It was the first time at this stadium that I saw an umpire throw out a manager and at least one pitcher at a game. The Pelican Manager took exception to a call over a bad pitch by his pitcher which hit a Keys player.

I took this picture as the Pelican Manager argued with the Umpire which drew the Keys team out of dugout.

Well putting it politely, I think the Pelican Manager definitely said the wrong thing to the Umpire because the next thing you knew…  in a grand old baseball style, the Umpire threw his right arm high into the air toward the Pelican side of the grandstands and with great relish … threw the manager out of the game.  Then, in a later inning, the Umpire threw out another Pelican pitcher for hitting another Keys batter with a bad pitch, too. It was a dark day for the Pelicans but a great win for the Keys!
